Simon has worked in graduate recruitment and development since 1994. A graduate himself, he has personal experience, not just from working with the employing organisations and graduates but with the University sector as well.In his first recruitment role he started out as a trainee consultant. He was managing a team of his own within 2 years; was Sales Director within 3 and then set up operations in Europe. He then joined a large recruitment group to set up a new partnership between the recruitment industry and University sector. Within 2 years he had opened 4 offices and had overall responsibility for them all. A short stint in the Executive search and selection soon followed, where he set up a unique programme of recruitment and development for a major UK multiple. In 2003, Simon used his industry knowledge and experience to start Graduate Success, managing graduate selection and development in the way he believes it should be done. "There is too much 'tradition' in graduate recruitment and training - the competition for the best talent makes this activity a huge challenge but the exciting bit lies in then developing that talent in ways that deliver for both the organisation AND the individual." In 2006, Simon was appointed Director of the former Student Industrial Society (SIS), the UK’s largest non-political student society, helping students to maximise their employability skills and stand out in a highly competitive job market. Under his leadership, the society has rebranded and successfully relaunched as Bright Futures, with many prominent corporate members working closely with member universities. Simon’s direction has meant that for the first time, members – both corporates and students – can now network online, through Bright Futures forums, blogs and personal profiles; as well as the more traditional skills workshops and on-campus events. |
